Are students allowed to have cell phones at school?
Students may possess a wireless telecommunication device on school premises or while in transit under the authority of the school or while attending any function sponsored or authorized by the school upon prior written consent of both the parent/guardian and a school administrator in the form of a wireless telecommunications device contract.
Cell phones must remain turned off during school hours (7:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m.). Due to the capability of these devices to access inappropriate materials, video/photograph others, connect/post to the World Wide Web, etc., violation of this rule will b the reason for disciplinary action.
Wireless telecommunication devices will be confiscated and released only to a parent or legal guardian. The actual use of a wireless telecommunication device to access/connect/post/distribute photos of others or accessing inappropriate materials on school property or during a school-sponsored event is a serious offense, and we will consider it a violation of personal rights. We will hold students and/or parents responsible for such violations resulting in disciplinary or legal action.
Please refer to our wireless telecommunications devices policy for more information.
Is my child allowed to bring music players (such as iPods) to school? Can my child bring his/her laptop or other mobile device to school?
Students in the Lukfata Public School are not permitted to bring music players, iPods, mp3 players, CD players, radios, laptops, iPads, tablets, portable video game players, televisions, or any other device that is deemed to be disruptive to the educational process on the school grounds, in the buildings, or on the school buses at any time. The one exception is eReaders. Please note: this is a policy change beginning this year.
Any student who violates this policy shall be subject to disciplinary action, including the confiscation of toys or electronic devices. Confiscated items will be taken to the principal’s office. The item shall not be returned to the student and may be returned to the student’s parents after a conference among the student, the student’s parents, and a school administrator.
Please refer to the student handbook for additional school policies. The student handbook is available on our Home page under the Parent Information and/or Student Information links.
How can my child get involved in Lukfata athletics?
We encourage all our students to participate in extracurricular activities, whether they choose to join our sports teams, music enrichment opportunities, clubs, or geography bees. However, to participate, students must maintain a passing grade in all subject areas on a weekly basis and not be prone to unexcused absences or tardies. For more information about our offerings, please visit our Clubs and Athletics pages.
